Our Camshaft Remanufacturing Process
We begin our intricate remanufacturing process by cleaning camshafts internally and externally. The cleaning process is critical, as the camshaft oil passages that lead through the internal part of the shaft must be as clean as the external part of the cam. The camshaft then gets an initial inspection, which includes checking for cracks, lobe lift, journal sizing, and hardness checks. It is then checked for straightness, straightened, centered, and re-threaded accordingly. If the camshaft has a bad lobe or main journal, we undercut the bad area and weld the lobe or main. We have different welding materials that are used depending on the OEM material and hardness.
The next part of the job is to remanufacture/grind the lobes, run an in-depth hardness test, and polish the lobes. For cast iron, camshafts get Parkerized. Steel billet camshafts get the lobes and mains polished. We then lubricate for rust prevention, package, and ship.
